CV of Dr. Eng-Kong Tan




Dr. Tan is a medical doctor, consultant psychiatrist and analytic psychotherapist.  He is the Founder and Chairman of the Metta Clinic, an established group psychological practice in Pymble, Sydney.


He is a former Chairman of Training of the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Association of Australia (PPAA), member of the Faculty of Training of the Australian New Zealand Association of Psychotherapy (ANZAP) and member of the Training Advisory Board of the NSW Institute of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (NSWIPP).  He is also a former Chairman of the Section of Psychotherapy of the Royal Australian and NZ College of Psychiatrists. 


He is Founder President of the Australian Association of Buddhist Counsellors and Psychotherapists (AABCAP) and the first Director of Training of its two year Buddhism and Psychotherapy Professional Training Course.  He is a Founding Member of the University Buddhist Education Foundation of Australia (UBEF). He is a Lecturer and Academic Board Member  of Nan Tien Institute.


Dr. Tan is a full clinical Fellow of the RANZCP (Royal Australian and NZ College of Psychiatrists), member of the NSWIPP ( NSW Institute of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy), ANZAP (Aust and NZ Assoc of Psychotherapists) and AAGP (Aust Assoc of Group Psychotherapists)


Dr. Tan offers individual, couples and group psychotherapies in his practice.  He runs Meditation, Personal Development and Analytic Groups.  He has worked with senior corporate executives and supervised members of the helping professions in mindfulness practices and psychotherapeutic skills and techniques. In the last forty years he has presented keynote addresses, workshops and seminars on Meditation, Spirituality, Buddhism and Psychotherapy in Australia and the Asia Pacific Region.
